By Heather Fogarty

Photography and being creative has always been in my blood. I was very fortunate to have my amazing grandfather spend hours upon hours walking me through the wonderment of ‘the full manual SLR camera,’ a most fascinating art form.

He was always there to encourage my budding enthusiasm. My mother has also been a major inspiration, leading by example. Her interest in local history, specifically Binnaway, saw her write two books which fostered my passion for ‘our’ history.

Being given this opportunity early has brought me to where I am now.

Gunnedah and its community are very supportive of our business and encouraged us to grow and refine.

With assistance from the council’s Business Partners Program and the many networking opportunities that our business community offers, everything has been possible.

History and photography go hand-in-hand. It is through the photos we share, our most precious moments like our births and our families which is ultimately our history.

Our talented daughter, Catherine, has been a major influence in how Fogarty Fotos has evolved. Working on our passions for printing, framing and restorations, we refined the business to work around our families and the needs of our community.

We try to make every customer feel special and never a part of a production line. Personal and individual service is what we strive for.

My amazing husband and family have always been there with guidance and have allowed me the opportunity to let our business fly.

For me, work should never be just about the money. Yes, it is a major part of any business, but for me, it is not the focus of why we went into business.

Being in business, in our shop, in Gunnedah, is one of my happy places. Looking around our businesses, it is no surprise to me that there are so many amazing women doing their thing and having a go.

It is not until we step out of our comfort zone that we really get to see what we can do.
